1. What is an EIAPP certificate?
An EIAPP certificate is a certificate documenting that the diesel engine with a rating of 130 kW and ratings above comply to the regulations on the time of the draft of the certificate.

2. What is IMO?
IMO is short for International Marine Organization, which is FN's ”Specialized Agency” with a unique responsibility for safety at sea and to prevent and eliminate pollution. The convention was signed in 1948 and there is today 166 membership countries. Denmark has participated since its draft in 1948.

3. How do you calculate from kW to HP?
1 kW = 1,36 HP and 1 HP = 0,736 kW
Ex.:
220 kW = 1,36 * 220
220 kW = 300 HP

1. Why does my engine get too warm when running? 
a. Defect: cooling water pump, thermostat or salt water pump
b. Blocked heat exchanger

 

2. Why does my engine have lower torque?
a. Blocked air filter
b. Inferior injectors
c. Problems with the fuel pump

 

3. Why does the engine consume engine oil?
a. Check if there is a oil spill 
b. Check the crankshaft ventilation
c. The engine might be worn down

 

4. Why does the engine not start?
a. Wrong timing of the injection
b. Blocked filters
c. Air in the fuel system

 

5. White smoke is coming out of my engine?
a. A broken cylinder head basket causing the engine to consume water

 

6. Why is the level of oil increasing?
a. Possibly a defect jet causing the fuel oil to run into the engine oil

 

7. Why does the engine not heat up when running?
a. The thermostat is stuck

 

8. Why is the engine oil grey?
a. Possibly, there is water in the oil

 

9. Why is my exhaust temperature very high?
a. The back pressure is high in the exhaust pipe 
b. Turbo pressure is too low
c. Wrong setting of the time of ignition 

10. Why does the engine vibrate when clutching in?
a. Alignment is not correct
b. The clutch might be worn down
c. The clutch is imbalanced

 

Spare parts department:

1. For what period of time after reception of engine is NORDHAVN able to deliver spare parts for SCANIA and SISU Diesel engines?
a. We are able to deliver all parts for engines for a minimum of 10 years after the specific engine has gone out of production. Wear parts can be delivered for up to 20 to 30 years after the diesel engine has gone out of production.

 

2. My SCANIA DSI14 diesel engine is in urgent need of a major overhaul. Does NORDHAVN have spare parts in stock for a complete engine overhaul or do I have to anticipate a prolonged delivery time?
a. For a complete overhaul we recommend you contact us 2 to 3 days before you need the spare parts to make sure we have all the parts in stock. If you need a spare part during the overhaul we guarantee day-to-day delivery.

 

3. Is a remanufactured spare part of as high a quality as a new spare part?
a. SCANIA`s remanufactured spare parts have been tested the same way as the new spare parts and is therefore of the same quality and durability. After mounting of remanufactured spare parts a defect part must be returned to NORDHAVN 30 days after ex works delivery at the very latest if a replacement is requested.
